Cotton Crates :)

While I was teaching at the Panguitch Quilt Walk last month (which reminds me, I think I missed posting about that, I will have to catch up soon)  I had the the wonderful opportunity to meet a new friend in one of my classes!!  Her name was Sharon and her daughter, Janelle,  just happens to be the creator of Cotton Crates, a Fat Quarter Subscription Box that drops fabric goodness at your doorstep each month!!  Janelle and I got to chatting back and forth and quickly became fast friends as well  and are excited to be working on a little collaboration fun. (more on that later ;)

Janelle was kind enough to send me a June Cotton Crate box and look what was inside!!!   A beautiful assortment of 12 Fat Quarters from Anna Maria Horner's Mod Corsage line!!!   Just gorgeous!!!

I mean, who doesn't love some Fat Quarter Goodness!!  I can't wait to start playing with these beauties :)

And this is the super cool part about Cotton Crates . . . They give you ideas on what to do with your Fat Quarter Goodness each month!!!!   Every Friday, Cotton Crates posts on their blog a fun idea or project you could make up with the contents of your Cotton Crate ;)  Last week they shared this fun Hipster Bag ;)  So cute!!!

And remember how I mentioned a little collaboration at the beginning of this post . . . Well keep an eye out because I have got something special planned for a future Cotton Crate in the way of a new tutorial and I can't wait to share it with all of you ;)  So ya, more on that Coming Soon!!!!

I hope you are having a very Happy Quilting Day and for all of my quilting peeps in the USA, I hoping you are having a very Happy 4th of July as well ;)  I have got to finish putting a binding on a quilt real quick  and then it is off for a BBQ with family and some firework fun!!!  And I so plan to sit on my new 4th At The Cabin Quilt I shared on Friday ;)  So excited!!!!

Splendid Sampler Saturday

It's Saturday and its another two for one day for the  Splendid Sampler post :)   I can't believe we are in July!!!  That means we are almost at the half way point, so fun!!!  So, onto the blocks.

First up, Dashing by Chocolate block designed by Laura Flynn.  This one was a lot of fun to make up and wen together nice and quick ;)  Just some fun flying geese and a few half square triangles and then it is like making a 9 patch ;)  So fun!!

Second is the Vintage Flower Basket block designed by Pam Vieira McGinnis.  This is another one that I just loved!!!  How adorable is that little basket brimming with the flowers.  And the ric-rac, adorable!!!  I do wish I would have used a different color other than white to outline everything as it doesn't show up on the flowers great, but what ya gonna do :)

And Third is the Balls In The Air block designed by Aylin Ozturk.  This was another one of those paper piecing blocks that worked me a little.  I did simply the piecing just a big, but when I went to put the whole block together it didn't line up perfectly, and that is driving me a little nuts.  I need to flip through my new paper piecing book and find some hints on how to get all of the paper pieced sections to match up when you sew them all together ;)

And Finally, Flights of Friendship block designed by Barbara Groves and Mary Jacobson.   I loved that story that Barbara and Mary had to go along with this block, and I just had to smile at it because those two gals are some of the sweetest, nicest, people you will ever meet ;)   I am so happy to have them as friends!!!

And with that, we are all caught up again, just to get behind again as I won't be in internet range next Saturday ;)  Ah well, it's all good and most importantly, it is oh so much fun!!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

4th At The Cabin Quilt

So excited to share this new finish that has been sitting in the "to be quilted" pile for almost a year. (wow, that is crazy long)   You might remember that I was so very fortunate to be asked to participate in a super fun 4th of July Log Cabin Swap last July along with several of my amazing friends from Moda.   And in August, we received all of our blocks back and I played with quite a few layouts, and eventually decided upon this one.   And then the quilt top sat, and sat, and sat.  Really, I can't believe it has been a year, I suppose time really does fly   . . . .but what better motivation to get it done that another 4th of July rolling around.  So, with 3 day's to spare . . . . here is 4th At The Cabin :)

I can not even begin to explain how excited I am to have this quilt for the 4th this year ;)   I just love that every time I look at it I think of all of the amazing ladies that had a hand in making the blocks.  Such a treasure!!!

And, of course,  I love, love, love it's scrappy goodness!!!  This is totally making me want to just start sewing up all of my scrappy strings.   I just love how you can mesh together so many wonderful fabrics and have such an amazingly happy outcome ;)    And I made a scrappy red binding from all of the bits of leftover scraps from other bindings to keep the scrappy goodness going ;)

And I am so wanting to make more log cabin blocks again now that I pulled this back out again ;)  They are just so fast and oh so much fun to make.  And they burn through a whole lot of scraps, double bonus!!!  I am thinking I need to make another one but in Christmas reds and greens.  So fun!!

And I am super excited about the quilting on this quilt because I totally tried something new.  I couldn't decide whether I wanted to quilt it in red or navy, and then I remembered Angela Walter's post here on how she used 2 threads at once and thought, why not!!!

And I absolutely loved it!!!!  I used 2 spools of So Fine Superior Threads in the top and an Omni thread in the bottom and I didn't have any problems at all with the tension.  And since it is for the 4th, I figured it very appropriate to quilt my little all over Firework design.   And I just love how the thread shows up Navy on the red fabrics and Red on the Navy fabrics.  So cool!!!

And when I took the quilt off, I got another super fun surprise.  The two threads added extra weight in the quilting that made the quilt feel super strong and super snuggly!!!!  It just feels like one of those quilts that I used to sit on for the 4th that my grandmother tied with all of its weighty goodness   It will be just perfect to snuggle up in while watching fireworks.

And that is 4th At The Cabin!!!!  I am so, so, so glad that it came out of the "to be quilted" pile and finally got finished. Totally one of those when you wonder why it took you son long to finish, but now it is done and I have a feeling it will be enjoyed each July for years to come!!!  A huge thank you to all of the wonderful friends at Moda who did this swap and helped make our new 4th At The Cabin quilt :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Linking up this finish to Sarah's and Amanda's ;)

Solids, and Twill, and Alphabitties, Oh My!!!

I was so very excited when my Sew Sampler Box arrived  earlier this week!!!!  Of course, I couldn't wait to tear it open and see what was inside.   And Wow!!!  So much amazing quilty goodness inside!!!  I think these boxes are quickly becoming like my quilts, every new one is my new favorite!!!

So loving this rainbow of new Riley Blake Crayola Solids!!!  And the box they package them in is just to cute!!!  I have already got some idea peculating of what to create with this pretty rainbow!!

And the notions in this Sew Sampler Box were awesome!!!!  I love Frixion pens for marking all of my lines, they are the best :)   And I love cute little rulers, which have especially come in handy working on all of those little blocks for the Splendid Sampler.   And finally, Alphabitties!!!!  I am so excited about these!!!!  I have wanted these since Fat Quarter Shop first made them but just never justified them ;)  That is what I love so much about these boxes!!!!  You get the surprises you have always wanted and they are like Christmas every time!!!

And you know that I will totally be making some more of these Cute as a Button Pincushions since there was some adorable new Fat Quarter Shop Twill Ribbon twill tape tucked in this box as well!!!  So excited, I just loved making the first ones and have been looking forward to making more ;)

And of course, I had to whip up the block from this month's recipe card ;)  I am getting super excited to see this little sampler come together.  You can see the previous 2 blocks right here ;)   I am hoping to make this into a queen size quilt when the year is done, so fun!!!

Such an amazing box this month!!!  You can find out all about the Sew Sampler Box right over here ;)  They really are like Christmas showing up on your doorstep each month!!!   I am already looking forward to next month's box!!!

Hope you have a Happy Quilting Day!!!
