Over the Rainbow Quilt and Pillow Tutorial!!

I am so thrilled to be sharing my newest finishes today and to also be sharing a new AccuQuilt Tutorial for them as well.    It's called Over the Rainbow, and it has Gnomes!!!  How cute is that ;)   I created a fun geometric cascading rainbow using the Half Hexi unit and then added that pop of cuteness with a Gnome applique. . . .and there is even a pillow to go with the quilt.  So fun!!!   And here they are ;)

The quilt is made with 2 Layer Cakes and a 4 1/2" Half Hexagon die as well as the New Gnome Die for the added applique.   I used 2 treasured Kate Spain Layer Cakes, Early Bird and Daydreamer, and I just love the beautiful rainbow of color they created!!!   I knew they were just perfect for this rainbow, and I am so glad I have been holding on to them for just the right project ;)

When it came time to quilt I decided on an all over wavy horizontal line.  I really think it added to the whole rainbow idea, and I just love all of the amazing texture it created.   And I quilted my Gnomes in place while quilting the quilt as well, I can't wait to wash this and to see how fun and scruffy they get :)

The Over the Rainbow quilts is made up of 160 Half Hexi units.  It really pieces together super fast, once you have the layout you like.  Honestly, I spent more time working on the layout of my rainbow, then I did sewing it together ;)    It measures 60" x 62" when it is finished so it is a great size to be used as a lap quilt and snuggle up with.

And you know, I couldn't waste the scraps from cutting my Half Hexies, they cut out so quick with the  GO! AccuQuilt Cutting System and you have just enough scrap to use the smaller 1 12" Half Hexagon Die  to make this matching pillow  So awesome!!!   Isn't that just the cutest, I can't get over those tiny 1 1/2" half hexies.  So adorable.

I quilted the pillow on my home machine (Bernina Aurora) with a wavy scallop quilted on a diagonal.  Again, I was trying to add to the whole rainbow concept.  And of course, I had to add the Gnomes on the pillow as well ;)    I did them in Solids so they would stand out on the rainbow background, and I think they are just so adorable!!

Oh, and the pillow uses the exact same layout as the quilt, so it's rainbow came together much quicker ;)   But of course, you can always switch it up from the layout of the quilt and the pillow.  Your rainbow can be Vertical, Spiral, Random . . . anything you like ;)     I trimmed my pillow to 16" x 16" so it fit a pillow form just nicely.

And that is my Over the Rainbow Quilt Pillow and Tutorial!!!  And I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   If you want to make your own Over the Rainbow Set just pop on over for the free step by step tutorial!!!     And when you are done, I would love to see it!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and #AccuQuilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Over the Rainbow Quilts and Pillows!!!

Thanks for joining me today and sharing this new tutorial with me ;)  I am so glad to have made this quilt.  I have had the idea kicking around in my head for a long time, and I am just thrilled that it came out just as I imagined ;)    This just makes me so happy for Spring and I hope it does you as well!!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Time for some Quilting :)

I finished up three quilt tops last weekend.  Now it is time for some serious Happy Quilting, well, just as soon as I get the quilt backs made ;)

Remember these blocks I shared??  I can't wait to get this one quilted.   And the good news is, I already have the tutorial typed up, so once I get this quilted, it will be ready to be posted on the blog.  Yippee for another fun, free, tutorial ;)

And that Twinkle Toes start from my Sew Sampler box, it's now a baby quilt top.   I am so happy with how these two lines blended together. It is just so cute!!  And I am also working on a Christmas Table Runner in this same design, and I have the blocks made and will get the top made super soon ;)

And finally, I shared this Goose Creek Garden fabric back in January.   I have been working on making this into a new Playground Picnic quilt in between working on other projects.  I am just so excited that the quilt top is all done!!!  I will be sharing this finish at the end of the month, so it will be quilted soon as well.

So yup, I am going to have a very Happy Quilting Weekend for sure ;)

How about you, what are you working on moving into the weekend??

P.S. Aren't quilt swirls just so fun :)

A Star is Born Remix Update

There is an Update to the A Star is Born Remix Quilt PDF.  Please be sure and adjust accordingly and so sorry for the inconvenience ;)

So this morning a typo was found in the A Star is Born Remix quilt PDF.   D of Background Fabric should measure 18 1/2" not 8 1/2".  You would have found this out super quick as there is no way an 8 1/2" square would have fit in the center :)  Sorry, I missed typing the 1.   So if you have printed this PDF please change D to 18 1/2" and if you have downloaded, please replace it with this new A Star is Born Remix PDF.

Also, It should be noted,  You still need to trim your HST's when making this larger version.  HST's are trimmed to 9 1/2".  I assumed that was known, but should have typed it out in the remix pdf.   I have added it into the A Star is Born Remix PDF instructions :)

The Links in past posts and in the Charming Baby Quilts, All the Quilts, All the Details have been updated with this change as well.   It has also been updated in the Charming Baby Quilts Remix,s PDF that has all 10 Remix's ;)

And that is all for today ;)  The kids are home from school so we are going to find some fun stuff to keep us busy, but maybe I will squeeze in a little sewing time.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Sew Sampler Box - February

I was just thrilled when my February Sew Sampler Box arrived.   it has been here a bit, but some people got their box a little later so I didn't want to post it until I knew everyone had theirs ;)  It's always fun to have a surprise of quilting goodness!!!  And talk about goodness . . . it's a rainbow of solid splash colors, so pretty!!!

I just love this gorgeous Fabric Kit this month.   It has a My Favorite Color is Moda Panel, and the Bella Solids that Fat Quarter Shop  has matched with it are just so pretty!!!  I love this Color Factory quilt pattern as well, but I am debating about maybe fussy cutting up that panel a bit . . . we will see :)

And this month's notions are so fantastic!!!   I had just been told about these awesome water soluble marking pencils at the last retreat I was at, and here they are in my box.  How great is that!     And isn't that Spool Pin Holder just adorable ;)  It has a magnet in it so the pins just "float" in the top of the spool.   and of course, it is in that wonderful Sew Sampler Aqua color ;)    And ya know, I always love Aurifil!!!

And of course, there is a new  Greatest Hits Quilt block to go with the box!!!  This is Track 11  pattern and I love how it has a softer look to it.   And that means only 1 more block to go, how fun is that!!!  I can't wait to see this one come together.  Mine is all from scraps without a lot of matched prints, but I think with some fun low volume sashing and maybe so happy cornerstones it will pull together nicely.

And just a note, if you are wanting to get in on the new year of Sew Sampler boxes you have to get in line.  There is currently a waiting list as the box subscription is full.   But hopefully the wait isn't to long.  (I have been told new spots open up each week!!!)

And that is the February Sew Sampler Box from Fat Quarter Shop :) And I am already looking forward to February's arriving later this month!!!   It's the best day when my little aqua box is in the mail ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day . . . the kids have Mon and Tues off school so I don't know how much quilting I am going to get to with a super long weekend, but it is fun to play with them as well!!!

Moroccan Lullaby 2 - In the Works

Thank you so much for all of the love on my new Mountain Lullaby Quilt!!!  When I asked if you would like a new Moroccan Lullaby Pattern that includes the alterations I did for this quilt, it was a resounding yes.   So I just wanted to let you know . . . that is in the works ;)

As I said in my previous post, this Mountain Lullaby quilt is for the Cabin, so I knew right off, I would need to make a new quilt for this pattern so that I would have it available for teaching and trunk shows and such.     I wanted to do some gorgeous large prints to highlight that big center block and found the perfect fabric line for it!!!   Isn't this bundle of Ava Kate by Carina Gardener just gorgeous!!!  I squealed when I got it out of the box, it is just so pretty!!   I think all of those large floral prints will just sing in the center of the blocks.

And then the fun part, picking the other fabrics to go along with it!!!  I plan to pair it with a Shades Snow background, an Apricot Blush Blossom print for the outlines, and the Black Stripe print from the line for the pop fabric.   I can't wait to get it all put together, I think it is going to be just stunning!!

And of course, I will most likely make a small baby version as well, but I haven't decided on fabric for that yet ;)  I am hoping to have the quilts made and the pattern done by the end of this month.  Just fyi in case you are waiting for it.

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!

I am off to cut into this gorgeous stack of Ava Kate!!!

Stacks

I love being able to work on several projects at one time.  It lets me play with so many pretty fabrics in one day, keeps each step varied, and allows me to be super efficient!!!  But it also creates lots and lots of stacks, in various stages of completion.   Here's the stacks I am working on this week ;)

You might recall I shared that I am working on a new Happy Quilting Pattern that will have curves . . . We'll now I have Stacks and Stacks of Crusts and Pies to make into Modified Drunkard Path units.   Let the creasing, pinning, stitching, and pressing begin!!  Lucky for me, this Songbird Fabric line (comes out in May)  by Fancy that Design House, is absolutely stunning, so I don't mind creasing, pinning, stitching and pressing over and over and over again :)

I also have this Stack of Sparkle Star Paper Piecing units ready to do some Chain Paper Piecing.  I found I really like "cutting out" the first step instead of trying to match the fabrics in the light.  It just makes it go faster and allows me to really "Chain Piece" even though I am paper piecing, and that is the kind of Paper Piecing I really am starting to like!!!  I am making a table runner with my Starlite Sampler Scraps and it is just going to be so fun to have on the table this coming Christmas!!

And this fun Stack of blocks is just waiting to be sewn into a quilt top.   This is for a new free tutorial I am working on :)  I just had so many Low Volume scraps, I decided it was time to do something with them.   It combines Log Cabin building with Chain finishes, my favorites!!!   Hopefully, this will be released soon :)

And finally, there has to be a Stack that hasn't even been started yet, right ;)   Remember at the beginning of the year when I said I was starting the My Favorite Color is Moda Sampler ,  well, it is still sitting in a gorgeous Stack of Grunge just waiting to be cut into.  But I refuse to take it off my "stacks in progress" pile as I really want to work on this  It just might be a "sticking around" kind of Stack ;)

So how about you . . . what Stacks are you working on in your sewing space??

It's March!!!

Oh my goodness, where did February go???  Ready or not, it's March.   And there are a few things to be super excited about for March . . .

First of that being the Instagram Quilt Fest!!!   This is hosted by Amy Ellis (@amyscreativeside) and has been an annual March thing for as long as I can remember.   It's all about a daily prompt to share and it is a wonderful way to meet new quilting friends, be inspired by quilty goodness, and  learn lots of quilting tidbits.   If you have never joined it, this is a great year to start :)

And second, the Serendipity Quilt Along starts this month!!!  It was originally slated to start today, but the start date is being pushed back to March 15th to allow more time for shipping of fabrics .  But that just means you have 15 more days to get all your supplies together to be ready for the First Release on the 15th!!  I am using Happy Days by Sherri and Chelsi ;)  I am so excited for this awesome Quilt Along, especially as it benefits such a great cause ;)

And finally, the reason I am so super excited for March . . . It's just so great to see the Sunshine again ;)  This morning I sat on the couch in my living room and just enjoyed the sun steaming in through my bay window.

So bring on March!!!

Here is to a Happy Quilting March Day ;)
